4 Do-it-Yourself Pet Stain Removal Steps

1. Do it NOW. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to remove. It isn’t always convenient to clean up a pet stain, but the problem will be greatly reduced the quicker you act. The stain could be permanent in just a few hours, especially with light colored carpet and rugs.

2. Use the right equipment. Use a small, hand-held carpet spotting machine or wet vacuum to extract urine, vomit, or feces. If you find the stain while still damp, you MUST extract the liquid BEFORE rinsing or using spot remover. Popular brands to look for are Bissel, Little Devil, and Little Green Machine. For wet vacuums, go to any hardware department and ask for wet vacs or shop vacs.

3. Use the right cleaning agent AFTER the liquid has been removed. Use a low residue spot remover if the stain is fresh or an enzyme spot remover if the stain has been in the fiber for more than a few hours. Call us and ask about two really good products we have available. Never use bleach. If you are using an enzyme, allow it to sit for at least 20 minutes or according to the label. An enzyme actually digests the bacteria associated with the odor in urine and works well for spots that have been in the carpet for more than a few hours.

4. Rinse the spot with plain water and extract the water with your wet vacuum or carpet-spotting machine. This can be done by rinsing with water from your spot removal machine or simply pouring a glass of water on the area and extracting with your wet vacuum.
Then, call a professional for complete odor and stain removal!

One of the most important things you can do fro your carpet is to vacuum vacuum vacuum, did you know a square foot of carpet can hide over a pound of dirt before you can see it? Once easy tip for vacuuming is to vacuum you carpet by the amount of people in the home, if you have two people in the home vacuum 2X a week have four people in the home vacuum 4X a week and so on. Slow steady back strokes work best, after going north to south go east to west, while this technique may take longer your carpet with look better and last longer.

Does your carpet cleaning company vacuum your carpet before the clean it? Many do not, leaving this very important step out impedes the very reason you called in the first place to clean the carpet. Not vacuuming before cleaning mean all the soils that could have been easily removed while dry now are wet and will take more effort to remove. If the cleaning company is leaving out this first very important step , what else are they not doing?

It happens more then we care to think, you hire a company to do a job only to find out too late they are not who they say they are. Here is a tip from the BBB

So how do you protect yourself?

The BBB says ask for references. If you get a quote over the phone and it doesn’t match the price they want to charge you when they show up at your house, find out why and get it resolved before they do any work. And, ask if the company does background checks on its employees before you let anyone in your home. AT Hebert’s will only give estimates over the phone and inform out clients once we get to their home or business we will walk over all the areas they are looking to have service preformed. GO over all their concerns options then give them an exact quote for the service the client want to have done. If for any reason the prospective client does not feel comfortable going forward we will thank them for opportunity and be on our way.

Some times accidents happen in your home

The picture above is from a home we did recently in Belechertown area. We are were called in to take care of several rooms of very fine furniture where each piece had soot damaged. With our Multi step process we were able to restore these pieces to pre damaged condition, making the home owner and he insurance company very happy

The first step is to inspect the furniture for any rips tears or other imperfections that we need to be aware of before we start any process, our second step is to vacuum each piece very slow and thoroughly not doing so can result in a huge mess in following steps step three is to mix up an encapsulating detergent and apply it to each surface of every piece of upholstery using microfiber towels. After this step is completed we move to step four taking clean cotton towels and wipe down every surface area of the upholstery we cleaned change out the towels frequently. Step five extract each piece of furniture using a special upholstery tool. Our final two steps, once again towel off all pieces, then inspect everything once again to insure nothing was missed.

Using this system even the most soiled upholstery can be brought back to like new condition in most cases

Sometimes other people can say it just a well or better, today is one of those times

This comes from the Mc Carthy Reality Group

Are you considering a large-scale home remodel? Whether you are looking for a project intended to increase your home’s value, or you’re splurging on a pleasure project for your family, many of you will be turning to contractors to carry out the work that needs to be done. However, not all contractors are equal. It is important for you to outline your priorities for the project. You’ll want a reliable contractor that can perform satisfactory work for a reasonable price. Here’s a few tips to help get you started.

1. – Find yourself an insured and licensed contractor. Don’t just pull a number from the classifieds and run with it without doing some proper homework. Licensing ensures that the contractor in question is qualified to do the work being discussed. To find out if your prospective contractor is licensed, contact your state license board and check up on them.

Insurance is another matter. Insurance protects the workers the contractor will be employing, and your home from accidents resulting in damages. Ask your contractor to provide you with proof of insurance. If they can’t provide this, then move on to a new contractor.

2. – Referrals and reviews – Before you strike out on your own, ask your friends and family if they have anyone that they’d recommend. Many times, the best contractors are found word-of-mouth. Every contractor on the planet wants his clients to think that he’s the best for the job, but results speak for themselves. Again, make sure any referrals are licensed and insured. You don’t want to take the chance of incurring additional damages to your property due to negligence and accidents. If no referrals can be found, then check online for reviews of local contractors. Most reputable contractors will have solid online reviews that are easily accessible. Contractors that operate their own websites are a plus.

3. – There’s no such thing as a stupid question. If your contractor acts annoyed with you for asking too many questions, then you should probably consider someone else for the job. Questions to consider asking are

- How long have you been in business?

- How much will this project cost in total?

- Have you performed this type of work before?

- What is the protocol if the project goes over-budget?

If you don’t like the answers given, then continue looking for a contractor you feel comfortable with.

4. – Don’t pay too much up front. Paying up to a third of the total estimate up front isn’t unheard of. This initial payment will more than likely be used to hire employees and buy supplies. However, be wary of giving the contractor any more money until after your project is finished. Also, don’t be afraid to get a rundown of how that initial payment will be spent. Be thorough if you want to be. The contractor should be able to give you a pretty good picture of the project in terms of cost and time.

5. – Get a contract – No matter the size of the project being undertaken, a contract should always be written up. This will ensure a legally-binding agreement between you and the contractor exists in the event of the unforeseen. Without a contract, there is no way to hold the contractor accountable in the event he performs an unsatisfactory job. And trust me…Any hassles you may incur in securing a contract is nothing compared to going to court without one in the event something goes awry. A proper contract should include the following information.

When the project will start and end

How and when you or the contractor is in default of the contract

How any disputes will be rectified

What happens if there is a delay due to weather, available materials, and so on.

Green Cleaning What Is Really Green and What Does it Mean to You

Carpet an floor cleaning chemicals and services

Part one

With all the BUZZ flying around about Green Cleaning and green or so called green cleaning products, there has been a ton and a half of miss information so much so I feel compelled to try and straighten some things out for you.

First let us separate fact from perception or opinion, just because you read the words GREEN, environmentally friendly, or we use green products does not mean this is so, many products or services that claim to be GREEN are not really a GREEN Cleaning Product or service.

Let me take a step back what does green mean in terms of a product or chemical mean to you, what does it mean to the certifying bodies that control this whole green movement.

This is where things start to get tricky, you see what you think of as a GREEN Cleaning product or Service, what a company uses for chemicals to clean your home or business thinks is A GREEN Cleaning Chemical, and what certifying agencies standard for GREEN Cleaning Chemicals are can be all together different, even different certifying agencies can have different standards. To add to the confusion even some certifying bodies can say something is green but still have chemical that are harmful in them. WE call this a Marketing Ploy

For some, a GREEN Cleaning product means all natural, others it means safe for the earth, still others it means safe for pets and people, while some have a different view or a combination of the previously mention.

Fact. Not all natural products are safe for anyone or any living thing we hold dear, many natural products or plants are indeed toxic to animals and humans, some are even carcinogens. Remember even though you see all natural on label does not necessarily mean this product is a nontoxic/ green cleaning product. Read the Label if you see Butanal or Other Common names for the same ingredient Butyraldehyde; nButanal; n-Butyl aldehyde; n-Butyraldehyde; Butal; Butaldehyde; Butanaldehyde; Butyl aldehyde; Butyral; Butyric aldehyde; Butyrylaldehyde; n-C3H7CHO;

Aldehyde butyrique; Aldeide butirrica; Butalyde; Butyraldehyd; NCI-C56291;

UN 1129; 1-Butanal; butan-1-al

You have a product that has carcinogens in it. Is that really a GREEN Cleaning Product? Do you want your family exposed to these products?

Read the Label

Whether you are buying a product or having a service provided you should know what is being used in your home or place of business. It is as simple as reading the label. In the case of using a service provider, they are by law required to carry MSDS (material safety data sheets) for any and all chemicals carried in their vehicles.

In Part 2 what Really Green Cleaning Products Are and how to tell
